Summer Writing Warm-up

As I continue my busy school-year life with two teaching jobs and two small kiddos, I can't help but look forward to the summer. Summer means one very special word: WRITING!

I miss Jordy, Sam, their general caffeinated chaos, and my fictional version of Eagle River. I'm looking forward to returning to that world full time for my second annual June Writing Challenge! Writers out there, you're welcome to join me. We write every day in June, and it is marvelous.

Last week, I attended a writing conference in Green Bay called Untitled Town. It's a newer festival, but they are growing and really seem to be drawing quite the crowd! I was heartened by the large turn-out, taking in the writer-packed atmosphere. I had the opportunity to meet and shake hands with Patricia Skalka, author of the Door County Mystery series that inspired me to set Decaf & Drones near my hometown in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. I felt very inspired by the many talks and workshops, and it gave me the boost I need as we near the summer months and I begin my "writing season" (as opposed to my "teaching season").

Jordy's third adventure is her craziest yet, in which she and Sam find themselves involved in both a local cold case and a possibly haunted resort. Our heroines face more danger and suspects than in both of the previous books, and I'm looking forward to tying it all together as I move from outline/freewrites to "beat list" (a new term I learned at the conference!) to finished novel. The tentative release date for the as-of-yet-unnamed 3rd book in the series will be late fall. I will be updating this blog more frequently in the summer, and I hope you join me along the journey.
